Muscat: A new Omani standard specification related to hydrogen fuel-operating vehicles has been
issued by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP).
The specifications set the performance requirements related to safety and availability of the conditions which mitigate damages to human in case of accidents. Nadia bint Mohammed Al Siyabi, Director of the Specifications Department at the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said the preparation of this standard specification comes in response to the government efforts aimed to encourage and support clean and sustainable energy
.

She said that issuance of the standard specification has been established on the international regulation of hydrogen operating vehicles, issued by the World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations. The vehicle regulations of the World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle are issued in joint agreement and coordination among the top industrial countries, she added.

These vehicles contain three basic systems which are the fuel supply and storage system, the fuel cells system and the electric torque system. The success of hydrogen vehicles in the Sultanate of Oman would lead to curb the pollutants resulting from gasoline and diesel fuel, she said.
