Oman holds talks in Switzerland and Italy on renewables and green hydrogen cooperation

Rome, June 25, 2023 (ONA) —- An official Omani delegation to the Republic of Italy, headed by HE Mohsin bin Hamad Al Hadhrami, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, discussed cooperation, consolidation of bilateral ties, promotion of investments and exchange of knowledge in the sectors of renewable energy, hydrogen and energy storage systems with leading companies, institutions and institutes in their field in Italy.

The delegation included participants from the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Public Services Regulatory Authority, in the presence of representatives of the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Italy.

The visit program included a series of meetings with a number of leading Italian companies in the field of energy, during which opportunities for cooperation and joint investment in various fields of energy were reviewed, and views and experiences were exchanged with Italian companies, where the focus was on sustainable technologies and innovations in the energy sector, and the importance of Joint cooperation in promoting investments in the energy sector and achieving sustainable development. 

The delegation also visited the Federal Republic of Switzerland to participate in the Business Forum of the Omani-Swiss Friendship Association, which aims to highlight best practices and discuss future prospects in key sectors such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, storage systems and carbon neutrality.

At the beginning of the meeting, HE the head of the Omani delegation delivered a speech in which he highlighted the vision of the Sultanate of Oman in the field of transition to a green economy in support of an environment conducive to green investments.

His Excellency stressed the importance of cooperation and exchange of experiences and knowledge between the Sultanate of Oman and Switzerland in the fields of energy, and praised the investment opportunities offered by Oman to Swiss companies.

For his part, Dr. Firas Al Abdwani, Director General of the Directorate General of Renewable Energy and Hydrogen at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, gave a presentation on the Sultanate of Oman’s strategy in the field of green hydrogen, reviewing the country’s efforts to promote the use of green hydrogen as a means to achieve sustainability in the energy sector, as well as the opportunities investment in renewable energy and green hydrogen in the Sultanate of Oman.

The forum also discussed the investment opportunities, expertise and capabilities that the Sultanate of Oman possesses to achieve success in the field of hydrogen and renewable energy. A process of cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and Switzerland in the field of green hydrogen and negative emission technologies, and the exchange of experiences and knowledge in these fields.

During the forum, a mini-discussion session entitled “Oman and Switzerland: Best Practices of Technology Transfer, Investment and Cooperation” was held, in which a group of experts and specialists participated, during which they reviewed best practices in technology transfer and investment and enhancing cooperation between the two countries in these fields.
