MUSCAT: Oman’s OQ, the global integrated energy group, took center stage at the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman 2023 (GHSO), a vital platform aligning seamlessly with the group’s Alternative Energy (AE) strategic business unit. This unit stands as the linchpin of OQ’s energy transition endeavors, playing a pivotal role in achieving national objectives. As the host for GHSO, one of the MENA region’s largest Hydrogen event, OQ also sponsored Women in Future Energies – an event uniting global women across the energy spectrum to nurture future pioneers.

“At OQ AE, decarbonization forms the nucleus of our strategy, addressing both our assets and Oman’s broader decarbonization journey. To realize this vision, OQAE has embraced four key pathways, ensuring the resilience of our core business through: Energy Excellence, Clean Energy, Low Carbon Molecules, and Negative Emissions,” the business unit said in a press statement.

In alignment with this commitment, OQ has made substantial strides by signing agreements for two pivotal project developments: Hyport Duqm and Green Energy Oman, actively advancing. Plans also encompass bolstering energy efficiency across upstream and downstream operations, with an MOU signed at the Green Hydrogen Summit.

The awarding of a green hydrogen block to the SalalaH2 consortium (by Hydrom at GHSO), comprised of OQ AE, Marubeni Corporation, Dutco Overseas Limited (Dutco Group), and Samsung C&T, is a Legacy Initiative producing over 4 GW of renewable energy for green hydrogen and green ammonia production. This initiative, which signed term sheets in March 2023, is set to contribute to local use and international green ammonia markets.

“OQ’s participation in the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman 2023 underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainable practices and contributing to Oman’s energy future. Together, we’re charting the course for a greener, more sustainable tomorrow. GHSO served as a dynamic platform for business leaders to meet and push forward these transformative developments,” it added.
